Anybody an idea, if Samsung plans to release the international version of Galaxy Tab with quad-band frequency for 3G/UMTS?
My int. version has tri-band only for 3G, missing the 850 MHz frequency, which is used in Costa Rica.

Mine is a quad band according to the box 850/900/1800/1900 with a HSPA tri band. I have a GT-I9000M from Bell.

Hi Casz,
your quad-band is GSM which is common for all versions of Galaxy Tab (mine too).
The problem is 3G (or UMTS or HSDPA or HSUPA or HSPA - which is all the same), where it has tri-band only (which is a shame for a brand new top-level device).
But thanks anyway for replying.

You actually need 5 bands to cover all the 3G options.
850/900/1700/1900/2100
Usually Qualcomm chips (of which Samsung has a licence to dissasemble as they see fit) come in the two flavours:
850/1900/2100 for the US market
900/1900/2100 for everyone else

Their latest chips add 1700 to both options, but you will always see a difference between 850 and 900 because of the filtering and antenna requirements.

Other radio vendors do produce peta-band chips and peta-band antennas, but they are more expensive.

Thanks Klause for the explanation. I do sort of understand how cell phones work but the 2 sets of bands confuse me:)

If I get a US version, it usually has GSM dual-band not covering 1800 MHz because it is not used in the US (isn't it?)
And the int. versions with GSM quad-band do not cover 3G 850...

Even if I could receive 3G I depend on GSM because of the poor 3G coverage inh Costa Rica.

Way would be the new "HTC Desire HD", running Froyo and covering GSM 1800 AND 3G 850 MHz
But is't not a Galaxy Tab which I love ... Undecided
